Way Too Spiritual

Updated: Jul 5, 2021

Today, even believers have been steeped in this world’s reality, and perhaps for way too long. There’s an ongoing conversation about we believers being over spiritualized or too “deep”. Are we so focused on the Kingdom of Heaven that we can’t be any earthly good? The pressures of this world to conform, to be anything but who we truly are, can take us over. It happens subtlety, this American dream we’ve adopted, these demands to succeed within humanity can gradually make us forget that we aren’t from here. We are heavenly creatures placed in earthly bodies so the order of lives should be spirituality first and humanity second!

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” Romans 8:14

God places a distinction between those who are His and those who aren’t. The truth can be daunting but not all human beings are children of God, no matter what false teaching we’ve heard for the sake of inclusion. Yikes! We are all God’s creation, but those who live by the Spirit of God are sons of God. As we die to our flesh daily, we are reminded that we are spirit first and it’s this state of being that we are connected to our Father. So, when we are ridiculed for being overly spiritual or looking into life too deeply, we can be confident that being spiritual is who we originally are. Our flesh will not disguise or diminish our true identities as heavenly beings.

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

Should we deny our devotion to our Eternal King and let our flesh pull us away from truth, peace, and joy? If we are weakened by flesh and find strength in our spirit then our pursuit and purpose should be to always live by the Spirit. This doesn’t make us naïve to the things of the world, on the contrary, this gives us heavenly insight to what is truly going on behind the scenes. We are more than dirt bags slowly decaying on a big rock floating in outer space. The air in our lungs should remind us that these, our bodies, must be used for heaven’s agenda here on earth. We believers can only receive that special intel from the Word of God and the faith it takes to hear and obey.

“What I am saying, dear brothers and sisters, is that our physical bodies cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. These dying bodies cannot inherit what will last forever.” 1 Corinthians 15:50

Before we were formed in our mother’s womb God knew us. It’s such a powerful truth! We believers judge each other too harshly, condemning one another for being too spiritually when we know we are spirit beings first. To be called “spooky spiritual” or “too churchy” by our own brothers and sisters gives the world the right to call us the same. News flash! We Kingdom Citizens ARE to be spiritual, even if it offends our humanity. Should we focus our whole existence on the temporal experiences of being human, or devote our lives to one day meet Jesus in the air having endured all, to reign with Him in eternity? God is worthy of this battle between flesh and spirit, He has given us the tools to win, the spiritual insight to be victorious. So, the next time we believers are accused of being “overly spiritual”, let’s take it as a compliment.
