Church Hurt

There are hundreds of believers being slaughtered around the world, thousands of them converting to other religions, and millions of them walking around with painful experiences from fellow believers. We call it “church hurt” and it’s been the root of discord and destruction within the Body of Christ. The Church is set up as its own government with order, Kingdom principles and, Christ at the center. The Church of God may have a history of causing pain to others, but it still remains the number one resource on earth as the Body of Christ.

With any government there are rules and this can be surprising to those with a church invite to come as they are. It may seem misleading, like being told something is free only to pay tax and shipping that costs more than the product, but these rules protect the house and everyone in it. The first thing we think about, as unbelievers come as they are, is the way that they dress. As the Body of Christ are we really going to interfere with what the Spirit of God is doing in the hearts of His beloved because their jeans are too tight? Of course not! Yet, the Church has had its fault in letting down the lost who are looking for a place of love, not judgement. “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other.  Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.  Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”  John 13:34-35 On the other hand, just as we honor our jobs, the court of law and, any event requiring a dress code, we should treat the House of God with the same honor. The rules are there to cover the Body and those wanting to become a part of it.

Hypocrites! This is the most popular label the world has placed on the church. Apparently, we’re viewed as judgmental, hypocritical, bible beaters who represent a love far from the Gospel we preach. It’s heart sickening to think about how we believers try so hard to negate this ill placed reputation by recruiting more people into church but, the only way to combat this is with more love. God is love and it was never His intention that we love within our own capacity, we’ll fail every time, but with His love; a perfect love. “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”  1 Peter 4:8 Any rule implemented and enforced through the love of God becomes a tool for growth instead of a stumbling block for the unlearned.

The Church was designed to be the world’s resource for salvation, wealth, and leadership and yet, the longer we progress in humanity the more the two separate. Here’s the truth: the Body of Christ lives by faith so when we are told we are forgiven we live our lives as forgiven and the world thinks we are on a “high horse”. The Church isn’t better than the world, we’re just determined to be better than who we were before salvation and, it’s a daily struggle. The House of God is a hospital for those who are ill in any area of their lives and just as doctors may not get it right every time, neither do our leaders. Have mercy world, the same mercy you are expecting from believers. We are trying just as you are, so come back home so that we can get better together. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16
