"Body" Bootcamp

The diet industry is a billion-dollar beast with no signs of stopping its capitalization of the public’s desire for the “perfect body”. As long as faces are frozen in time by poisonous Botox and the natural curves of a woman’s body is sculpted by a surgeon, the diet industry will continue to feast on people’s deception. Our bodies, created in the image of God, are the masterpieces of God’s imagination. Likewise, the Body of Christ (The Church) was perfectly made to represent the love and power of Jesus; an extension of Christ in the Earth. As we carry the responsibility of representing Christ on earth it must come with discipline. How else is perfection established? Here are the best three reasons why discipline in The Church proves that God exists.

The Power of Peace

1 Corinthians 1:2

To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours

Where there is tragedy there is a sanctuary in the house of God. Even non-believers will flock to church when catastrophe strikes. A meager one-room establishment can bring absolute solace to those who enter just for having a cross on its steeple. The church is a symbol of God’s presence on earth and people can’t help but look for Him when they are looking for peace in the midst of their devastation. Logic would say that “If I can’t get to God’s house then I need to find a person who houses God.” That would be us; The Church, and woe unto us if those who are in search of God’s presence cannot find it in His people. Discipline guarantees that God’s people are always prepared to operate in His love and power when disaster strikes and peace is needed.

The Power of Light

1 Corinthians 12:12

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.

Hollywood has taken the sacredness of the cross and has used it to keep vampires away but, that cross at Calvary, that act of absolute love, covered every single sin that was and would ever be committed. To dwindle down the power of God to keep fictitious demons away is insulting but, what’s so disheartening is the way it is overlooked and boxed into the human imagination. The Church illuminates Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross as we live out our lives in submission to His will.

If the world is dark then The Church is the light on a hill pointing to Calvary and the need for Jesus in every heart. It takes discipline not to succumb to temptation, to the ways of the world; it takes church discipline to hold on to the standard of God. If we give up on doing life the way God established in His Word then the light goes out, as extinguished as a lit match stick in a torrential downpour. Discipline will keep the light on!

The Power of Love

Colossians 3:14-16

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

This new phrase “Love is love” has been thrown around carelessly and all for the sake of people being able to live alternative lifestyles without consequence. We throw “love” around on Valentine’s Day, in romantic movies, and we print it on our clothes but, what if we were to replace that word with “God”? It seems a little less frivolous, doesn’t it? It calls for more care and observation when we decide what we label as God. The bible clearly tells us that God is love. (1 John 4:7) The Church is the evidence of God’s love, a whole group of unworthy people justified by Jesus, living in His blessed will, and gratefully waiting on His return. Discipline reminds us that love is why we do the right thing, why we suffer for His namesake, and why it’s worth living life in the world and not of it.

Yes, the diet industry is a billion-dollar beast that preys on the deception of people but, heaven went bankrupt to save the world and The Church is evidence of that. Praise God for the Lamb who was slain. Who was, and is, and is to come!!
